With new technology, inventions and discoveries, more and more aspects are being added to the enhancement and sometimes mere possibility of a satisfying sex life. Sex toys and sexual accessories were considered once upon a time to be something for those who could not have sexual intercourse, or those who had difficulties in having sexual intercourse with their partners.

Sexual Lubricants are actually quite similar to the commercial lubricants that one uses for machinery and gears – at least when it comes to the question of what a lubricant does for the body. Penetration is not always hunky dory for couples. In cases like where a woman is having intercourse for the first time, or in where a woman has not had intercourse for a long while, or just when the male of the couple is quite heavily endowed, or if the woman is petite – the lubricant comes handy for all these kind of people. Of course, many couples who do not fit in any of these categories use lubricants simply because it enhances the sexual intercourse.

While lubricants are generally used by women who have dryness around the vaginal area and to enhance the sexual intercourse, it is also used by women who are new to anal intercourse. Lubricants not only give the vaginal area extra moisture, but it sometimes can also help in enhancing the sexual pleasure of the male organ.  Dryness around and in the vagina is the ultimate buzz killer for a couple, and lubricants make sure that no couple has to experience that.

Like every other product, there are different kinds of lubricants that cover a wide range of requirements. Some individuals might not be comfortable with the ingredients of some lubricants, while others may lead a type of sexual lifestyle that might not be the best for a specific kind of lubricant. Therefore, it is very necessary for the user to decide which kind of lubricant would be the best for them, before they buy and use one.

Different Types of Lubricants:

There are different types of lubricants, and each of them has their own advantages and disadvantages, as well as situations where they can be used and not. Here is a list of the different types of lubricants:

Water Based Lubricants: Water based lubricants are the most widely used and available lubricants in the market.  They are quite cheap as compared to the other lubricants, but they are prone to leave a sticky mess after being used and they may need to be applied more than once.  Also, water based lubricants cannot be used in areas like pools and bath tubs etc, because they may dissolve and disappear in the surrounding water.  Some water based lubricants may also contain glycerin. Glycerin may be responsible for infection in some people, so make sure that both the sexual partners are okay with glycerin.

Oil Based Lubricants: Oil based lubricants are also widely used types of lubricants. While these are used to enhance sexual intercourse, they are also sometimes used if the women have a peculiar dryness at the vaginal area. Oil based lubricants should be used if a person is using latex condoms, because latex can dissolve if it comes in contact with the oil.

Silicone Lubricants: Silicone lubricants are debatably the longest lasting lubricants out of all the three. They are safe to use with condoms,  however the biggest disadvantage of these lubricants are that they cannot be used with other sex toys and accessories that are silicone based. For example, if you are using a dildo or a dong that is silicone based as part of the foreplay, there is a possibility that the dildo may disintegrate along with the silicone. Therefore, one needs to be careful about their sexual intercourse if they are planning to use silicone lubricants.

How to Apply Personal Lubricant?

Applying personal lubricant is quite simple. Depending on the type of container that it comes in, you need to squeeze or turn the lubricant into the palm of your hand, and then apply it to the orifice that will be penetrated. You should also apply some of inside the orifice as well. To enhance pleasure, one can apply some of the lubricant into the condom of the partner, as well as the penetrating organ of the sexual partner. One would have to apply lubricant as necessary during sexual intercourse. To decrease the number of times you would have to disturb the intercourse to apply lubricant, you can use silicone based lubricants.  Remember to wash off the lubricant with water or soap. Keeping lubricants on after the sexual intercourse may result in issues like skin irritation, etc.

While these are the common types of lubricants available, some lubricants are also flavored to enhance the sexual pleasure. These flavors and scents are basically aimed at distressing the couple and putting their minds at rest, so that they can enjoy their sexual intercourse and have fun!

While buying personal lubricants, you need to follow some tips, just like how you would while buying any sexual accessory. Remember that a personal lubricant is something that will be applied to your genitals and your skin. Therefore, you have to be very careful about the ingredients that are to be chosen. Some lubricants may cause problems if they come in oral contact. Therefore, make sure that the sexual partner does not indulge in cunnilingus after the lubricant has been applied to the genital area.
